HOW WE ARE TOGETHER

With input from several active participants in the Center, the following guidelines are our resource to feel valued and safe when making connection, promoting growth, and encouraging shared exploration.

Respect one another’s voices

Listen from a place of curiosity and seek to understand and allow others to express themselves without interruption. When a speaker has finished, allow for a brief pause before responding.

Suspend judgement

Enter conversation with an open mind, aiming to learn rather than to persuade. Seek to build a connection with what others say.

Speak from personal experience

Use “I” statements and share personal perspectives, rather than advising, correcting, or generalizing about others.

When holding differing points of view

Focus on critiquing ideas and offering alternatives rather than attacking individuals. It is acceptable to disagree.

Share the space

Be mindful of allowing time and space for all who wish to participate. Should divisions occur, seek reconciliation when possible and appropriate.

Confidentiality matters

What is shared is held with respect and not discussed outside the group without permission.

Facilitators act in support of healthy communication and a safe environment

Facilitators may pause or redirect interaction if communication is disruptive.
